Japan, EU donate N1.2bn for proper disaster management

The EU grant, a sum of €1.5m (about N325m) is to be used to rehabilitate children affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State while Japan’s grant of $4.5m (about N886.5m), is meant for the provision of disaster management equipment for the country.

The European Union (EU) and Japan have donated a combined sum of N1.2bn to Nigeria to combat the Boko Haram insurgency and improve disaster management in the country.

The agreement for the release of the grant was signed in Abuja between the Federal Government and representatives from the EU and the government of Japan.

Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Sulaiman, signed on behalf of the Federal Government while the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Michel Arrion, and the Charge the Affairs of Japan, Masaya Otsuka, signed on behalf of the EU and Japan respectively.
