Traffic set to get better with new light rail

The Kano state government has signed a contract with China Railway Construction Corporation, in order to construct a light rail.

According to Leadership, the state government has signed a $1.851 billion contract with the China Railway Construction Corporation.

The construction of the four-line rail is expected to begin within the next two years, while the second phase should take two more years.

Upon completion, the rail, which goes 100 kilometres,per hour, will cover Janguza – Bata, Jogana – Bata, Dawanau – Bata and Kwanar Dawaki – Bata routes.

”In context, 100 kilometres per hour is as fast as moving from Lagos to Ibadan in 72 minutes", a company representative described.

In related news, Nigeria’s first ever multi-billion naira Light Rail project is about to be inaugurated in Cross River state.

The electric-powered rail is reportedly faster than the Kano city rail, as the Cross River state train runs at a speed of about 40 kilometres per hour.

Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, reportes that the project will soon be commissioned by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
