Should men pay for women’s transportation when they ask them out on a date?

Here’s why we think men who ask women out should pay for their transportation.

Here's who should pay for the ride on a night out [Uber]

In a study on love and money that was performed by Money and SurveyMonkey, 78 percent of respondents agreed that males ought to cover the cost of the first date. 20 percent of the 4,447 participants disagreed, and 2% chose not to respond.

A debate has been sparked online about whether women deserve their transportation fare to be paid when they go out on a date with a guy - yes to an extent, I believed they should be. Here’s why.

Women love romance, and one of the aspects of romance is thoughtfulness. Yes, she might not even need it but saying things like 'I’d have an Uber pick you up', or 'I’ll come to pick you up' shows you want to de-stress her life and you care.

I think if women don’t feel like they have enough money to go out, they can decline the date.

If it’s a first date, then that means you invited her out. She is leaving the comfort of her house to meet up with you. She had no prior plans to go out and spend money, and the date might take her out of her budget.

How much would it cost to pay for her ride? If it’s such a huge bill and you can’t pay for it, why don’t you suggest a location close to her house? We’ve heard men paying for private jets to pick their women - women who aren’t even poor. Surely, a ₦2,500 Uber, Bolt, Indrive, etc. fee won’t kill you unless you are also broke.

It shouldn’t matter if you think she can pay. If she wants to, when you offer, she can decline. Back to the issue of you inviting her out. You want her time, but of course, be wise about it. Do you think she likes you? Do you think you would have a good time? Honestly, dating is a gamble and you might not be sure until you go out.

Imagine her jumping buses, sweating, and trekking just so she could go on a date with you. That doesn’t seem nice or fair, is it? If she’s asking, maybe she doesn’t have the means and she would appreciate it if you help out. It’s really that simple.

Women shouldn't act entitled to it, but men can offer before she asks.
