Benjamin Kobla Doamekpor is accused of physically assaulting his 23-year-old girlfriend, causing injuries, including a fractured leg and pain in the genitals.

The alleged incident took place when the victim attempted to leave Doamekpor's residence after spending several days with him in Katamanso, Greater Accra. The altercation is said to have stemmed from disputes over phone chats and photos.

Doamekpor has pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm and is scheduled to reappear in court on October 30, 2023.

His defense counsel requested bail, citing his willingness to cover the victim's medical expenses and the fact that he is not a flight risk. However, the prosecution opposed bail, emphasizing the difficulty they faced in reaching the accused and their need for his cooperation in the ongoing investigations. As a result, the court remanded Doamekpor into police custody.

According to the prosecution, the complainant is a businesswoman residing in Labadi, and the accused is in a relationship with the younger sister of the complainant.

The complainant reported that her sister had gone to visit Doamekpor in Amrahia, which eventually led to the reported incident. The victim sustained injuries that required her to be in crutches with her right leg in a cast.

The victim recounted that she visited her boyfriend (the accused) on September 25, 2023, and when she tried to leave on September 27, the accused prevented her from doing so.

He allegedly snatched her phone and discovered chat messages and photos of her with another man, leading to a violent assault.

Doamekpor reportedly stepped on her right leg, causing a fracture, and kicked her in the genitals. He then rushed her to a hospital in Koforidua and instructed her to tell her relatives that she had fallen into a gutter and sustained a fractured leg.

Upon caution, Doamekpor admitted to the offense but claimed he did not intend to cause harm.
