Chaotic life of an HR: Another clueless candidate (Ep.42)

The following day, we were ready to interview our first candidate.

She arrived an hour before the interview, which made us prioritize her interview. I and Zainab started to make preparations for the interview and moved into the interview room.

We requested that she be called in, and we started the interview. “Peace be unto you,” she said, sitting in the available seat in front of us. I and Zainab looked at each other, and then back at our applicant.

“Peace be unto you as well,” Zainab said, giving her a hard stare, she continued, “please, tell us about yourself.”

“My name is Cynthia, and I’m highly experienced in the role of this job. I cook different kinds of food, I am very welcoming, and I speak good English,” she explained.

“What did you study in school, and how does it relate to the role you applied for, I mean do you by any chance have any experience in this field?

“Yeah, I’ve cooked for several people, and organizations, but this time, I decided to take it to another level. That's why I am here, she said, confidently smiling at both of us.

The look on Zainab’s face changed, you could tell that she did not sign up for what she got.

“Is this playing?” I thought to myself. How did you wear a fine dress to an interview only to act like you don’t even know the role you are being interviewed for?

A pin drop silence was observed in the room for a few minutes until I spoke up, “Hi Cynthia, can you please remind me of the role that you applied for again?”

“Oh, the role of a Chef,” she said.

“Chef?” Zainab asked. I cleared my throat and continued, “ I think you are probably in the wrong place because we are not recruiting for the role of a chef.”

While I was explaining, she hurriedly dipped her hand into her bag and brought out a small note, and flipped through the pages in seconds before raising her head to speak, “Ah!”

“What happened?” Zainab asked.

“I just found out that I didn’t apply for the role of a Chef here, it’s in another company, please I’m very sorry,” she said adjusting her dress. “Now that I know, please let’s start the interview from the beginning,” she said with the biggest audacity I’ve ever witnessed in my life.
