After he completely crushed his first show with Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh scores another major deal with Nike for the "Queen" collection for Serena Williams' return to the US Open.

Serena Williams is known for her very stylish and surprising appearances which turn out to be unforgettable. As she returns to defend her title this year, she will be spotting outfits from the custom made collection "Queen", a collaboration between Off White designer, Virgil Abloh, and Nike. From the report by Vogue, she will be wearing the outfits throughout the competition in Queens, New York later in August.

In styling Serena, Abloh hopes to blur the lines between fashion and sports. This is quite evident in the black and white body suit and matching tutu fit for a ballerina — flexible but strong.

Serena talks about the outfits in an interview with Vogue:

"When I first tried on the dress, I felt very strong and feminine at the same time. It has all the really strong elements, from the leather to that really cool stretchy material, I felt so feminine in the tutu, which is probably my favorite part of it. It really embodies what I always say: that you can be strong and beautiful at the same time."

The outfits consist of a skin-tight one-piece with a free tulle at the waist. She will also be wearing a bomber jacket from Off-White — branded "Serena" — and Nike x Off White custom sneakers — aptly branded "Queen".

The designer for one of the most sought after luxury street wear labels tells Vogue:

"When I was thinking about outfits for Serena, I was thinking about her playing the game and her aesthetic while she is. Also about the confidence that’s needed while playing at the top level of tennis. This is very far from a design-by-numbers project. As you can tell by her personality in her play, she’s very much involved in her aesthetic. She has a level of creativity with how she expresses herself in terms of clothing in any event, so I made everything with her logic in mind. We traded images and there was a lot of back-and-forths to get this done in short order."

The public will see the outfits active on Serena Williams at the US Open from August 27 till September 9 and then, a few limited editions of versions of most of the kit—the dress, jacket, and two of the three sneakers—will be available at select Nike locations at the end of the month.

More about Virgil Abloh

Abloh launched Off-White in 2013 and quickly got noticed. In 2015, he was the only American to become a finalist for the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. He was credited with helping streetwear storm the luxury sector to take its place alongside it, without losing his cred of course. Off-White is sold at stores like Barneys New York and French concept store Colette, not to mention the Off-White boutique/ hangout spots that Abloh has designed in TokyoHong Kong, and other cities.

These days, bloggers, influencers, models, musicians, actors are the new figures informing the landscape of what is sartorially acceptable and Virgil has mad his name by being able to plug into that new system and work alongside it.
