68 designers set to show at 'Connecting Africa' themed show

The Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 (AFWN 2016) organizers have revealed a whooping 68 designers will showcase their latest designs at the fashion week set to big the biggest fashion show in Africa.

With a 'Connecting Africa' as the theme for 2016, the team revealed the plan already in place for the fashion week set to witness an influx of designers, buyers, exhibitors and more at the fashion event at a press conference yesterday 21st June, 2016 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The AFWN launched in 2014, a sister event to the Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) to enable people showcase their designs.

Ronke Ademiluyi, founder of the AFWN who revealed the show was created in Nigeria to provide a platform for designers who can't afford to travel to London to showcase their designs maintains the show is to project Africa and her creatives to the world.

"The reason for the move to Nigeria is to reach out to more talented innovative Nigerian designers who do not have a means to travel to London to showcase" Ademiluyi offered referring to the past successful editions of the fashion week as instances.

Abiola Aloba, co-ordinator of the AFWN 2016 revealed the plan behind the scenes for the show as well as an impressive lineup of designers from London, Morocco, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and more. Swarovski will also showcase for the first time in Nigeria at the show.

The show producer and director Sola Oyebade of Think Mahogany who is the creative director of the show revealed the intense plans going on to make sure all 68 designers 'shine' on the runway.

The fashion event kicks off with the Street Catwalk at The Palms Mall in Victoria Island on 25th June 2016. The business of fashion conference holds on the 1st July, 2016. The second and third days will have back to back Catwalk Shows from upcoming to established designers.

Da Viva PR person Carol Arhere, Jennifer Anoyika of Nigerian-German Business Association, Lucky Idike of Bank Of Industry and other stakeholders including designers, sponsors and more were in attendance at the conference.
