Cardi B scores a stealth home-run in 'Invasion of Privacy'

From being a stripper to topping charts and scoring platinum numbers off her single, ‘Bodak Yellow’ in 2017, Cardi B is on a world domination plan and ‘Invasion of Privacy’ is her blueprint towards achieving it.

The rapper whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar has enjoyed a fair share of commercial success mixed with critical condemnation especially due to her lyrics. She has also witnessed a lot happening around her of late following her engagement to fellow artist, Offset from Migos including the recent news of her pregnancy.

There is however not stopping her and her progression has been quite enthralling and nothing captures it best than in her words, ‘’.

On ‘Invasion of Privacy’, Cardi tells her story on the 13- track project whose only listed features come in form of 21 Savage on ‘Bartier Cardi’ and Migos on ‘Drip’. But the likes of Chance the Rapper on ‘Best life’, Grammy nominee Kehlani on ‘Ring’, YG on ‘She bad’ and SZA on ‘I do’ all come together to give the album credence and life.

The album which opens up with ‘Get up 10’, sees her utter the very first words, ‘They gave a bitch two options, strippin or lose, used to dance in a club right across from my school’. She then goes ahead to re-affirm that she is the one killing isht. This song is all ether though and a good way to start the project with its mid-tempo bouncy beat.

If there is one thing that the hit single ‘Bodak Yellow’suggests, it is that Cardi is as brazen as they come and so it comes as not much of a surprise when on tracks like ‘, which is another heavily trap influenced joint, she compares her breasts (twins) to that of Beyonce while on the Mustard produced ‘She bad’, she requests for a threesome with Rihanna and Chrissy Teigen.I need Chrissy Teigen, know a bad bitch when I see one, tell Rih-rih, I need a threesome’.

‘Ring’ with Kehlani is one of the standout joints on the project as Cardi allows her emotions show, Chance the Rapper comes through with a strong showing midway into the project, while on ‘I like it’ which samples the classic, ‘I like it like that’, she pays homage to her Latin heritage.

Invasion of Privacy is not your textbook, ‘how to fall in love with a rapper’ debut album, but this is a remarkably confident and strong showing for a debut effort.

The album excels not just on attitude but on proper execution. Filled with a lot of sex talk (more than a lot actually) and her relationship issues, Cardi B is deliberate with her intentions of asserting her type of music into your consciousness. She scores a solid debut effort and has found her place in not trying to prove a point but to actually be the point.
