Remembering the works of Nollywood veteran actor Pa Kasumu

Here's all you need to know about deceased Nollywood veteran, Kayode Odumosu who passed on after a prolonged battle with heart failure.

Olukayode Odumosu popularly known as Pa Kasumu died on Sunday, March 1, 2020 [Premium Times]

The renowned thespian died in a private hospital in Lantoro, Abeokuta after a long battle with heart failure, liver and kidney related ailments.

Born Ilesanmi Olukayode Olugbenga Odumosu in Ibadan on March 16, 1953, the 66-year-old veteran began acting as a teenager with his debut role in 1968 stage play 'Iyawo Orun'. In 1969, he featured in his breakout play titled 'Omo Ekere'.

Famous for his versatility, Pa Kasumu remains one of the veteran actors with an unshakable resolve to transition from stage to screen. His successful transition paved the way for most of his contemporaries.

In his lifetime, Pa Kasumu featured in over 50 films, stage plays and TV series including his most popular TV series 'Erin Keekee' (1990) where he played the role of Baba Idogo, the pipe-smoking semi-illiterate.

The stage name Pa Kasumu stuck on the actor from his role in 'Akámó' (2007) where he played a character with the name. Other popular features include 'Super Story' (TV series), 'Jesu Mushin' (2002), 'Sàngó: The Legendary African King' (1998), 'Babie Á' (2003) and 'Tales of Eve: Simi' (2011).

Describing his work ethics, actress Foluke Daramola Salako who first broke the news of his death shared that Pa Kasumu was a “uniquely talented professional” who will be sorely missed.

She also expressed her sadness about his death barely a year after he got recognised for his contribution to the growth of the industry.

Pa Kasumu was diagnosed with Biventricular Heart Failure in 2013. In the same year, the thespian revealed in an interview that he suffered a stroke due to his excessive consumption of alcohol.

The actor will be buried on the 2nd and 3rd of April, 2020 as confirmed by Foluke Daramola.
