The Rock confirms movie remake

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Instagram on Friday to confirm that a remake of the 1995 film, 'Jumanji' is happening, and he’s gonna be a part of it!

The Rock

“It’s official," he wrote. "We’ll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs. There’s games you play for fun... then there’s games that change your life. JUMANJI.”

The original film, made in 1995, was based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 picture book and starred the late Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst. The story portrayed two children who played a magical board game in order to save a man who had been trapped for years.

The 'San Andreas' actor, 43, said further in his instagram post, “Working on edging up an already very good script with my team. Up next is meeting with our producer and director Shooting starts this fall. Promise to deliver something cool and special... and not screw the whole damn thing up;). As always I’ll keep you posted. Casting this should be fun!”

“To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans like HBO’s #ballers to this summer's #CentralIntelligence is one of the best parts of my job,” The Rock added. “But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity [to] reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor.”

News of a Jumanji rennaisance actually began last year when Sony Pictures announced the titles of several upcoming movies.

The new Jumanji is slated to premiere in July 2017.
