Does commercial value affect output and art in Nollywood?

In this exclusive interview with Pulse Nigeria, Nollywood fillmaker Emem Isong, who recently produced two movies on rape, spoke on how commercial value affects  her art and output.

"I try my best to pay attention to details. I try my best to make my productions have good value.

But then I don’t lose site of the commercial aspect, because of course, we need money to continue," Emem said.

I do once in a while make arty films, but that’s once in a while. I try to combine the two," she added.

Emem who recently produced two movies on rape - and and is currently working on a comedy movie 'Love is in the Hair, spoke on changing from rape story to comedy.

“For me, I just make movies that I’m led to do at the time. There’s really no reason. I’m not very very good with comedies, that’s my sister, Uduak's  forte," she said.

"But, I fell in love with the story. The story found me, and I said there’s nothing that’s gonna stop me from making this movie.

"I found it hilarious, and I feel it has a lot of commercial value. Of course, I’m here to make money, so I decided to make the movie."
