Spike Lee says he never called for an Oscar boycott despite what the media reported.

The Oscar winning movie director appeared on 'Good Morning America' on January 20 to correct multiple media reports on the issue. However, he says blasting the Academy for shutting out black actors and films and saying he will not attend this year's event is not the same as calling for a boycott.

Lee said he and his wife would be at the Knicks game at Madison Square Garden the night of the Oscars, and everyone else can either attend or not ... not his business.

Same goes to Jada Pinkett Smith who only said that its time for African-Americans to stop begging to be acknowledged by the Academy and do their own thing in their own community.

Lee didn't say if Chris Rock should or should not host the event. In fact he had no judgement on the  selected host.
