President Goodluck Jonathan swore in Shekarau, alongside three other new ministers.

The other ministers and their portfolios are: Stephen Oru (Delta State) as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs,  Abdul Bulama (Yobe) and Minister of Science and Technology and  Clement Adebayo Adeyeye (Ekiti) as Minister of State for Works, on Wednesday.

Jonathan told the new ministers to get to work as quickly as they can because they are "injury time" players in his government.

“In a football match, when you get to the injury time and a player is brought in, you expect goals.

"This government has less than a year to go and you’ve been brought in this time, so you know why you’ve been brought in.

"You’ve no time to sleep,” Jonathan said.

As a former governor and one time classroom teacher, Shekarau, has been hailed as a good choice.

Meanwhile, there is no news regarding Wike's position or future in the Jonathan administration following his removal.
