Students ask government subsidize private schools

Student Council President of the Jimmy Jolocon High School, Monrovia, Anthony Godson Jellue, urged the government to make its subsidy available to all schools, not a selected few, Monrovia based FrontPageAfrica reports.

According to the newly-elected student leader, the move will enable more students to enrol.

"Government subsidy must cover learning institutions in the country that are certificated by the Ministry of Education, if this is done, more of our brothers and sisters who are not in school across the country will have the opportunity to attend school," Jellue said.

Jellue, whose school is one of the private schools excluded from the government's existing subsidy, says the lack of support to private schools is the reason why parents have to pay huge fees for their wards to acquire knowledge.

He argues that the extension of supports to all Ministry of Education certificated schools will drop tuition fees, enabling to afford to send their kids to school.
