Since 2016, LAUTECH has been having one crisis or the other as academic and non-academic staff keep going on strike.

In October 2017, LAUTECH lecturers called off a strike after the school had been shut for over one year.

The students, who are tired of the crisis called on Tinubu and the federal government to take over the institution and save their future.

Ten months after calling off the indefinite strike the lecturers started in 2018, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in LAUTECH on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, disrupted ongoing second-semester examinations to begin another strike.

The union cited poor infrastructure, inadequate staff development, non-payment of 10 months salaries of the workers and outrageous fee regimes as its reasons for starting another strike.

And for the second time in less than one year, the students are crying out for help again.

According to Premium Times, the student union in LAUTECH has in a statement signed by its President, Abiodun Oluwaseun called on Bola Tinubu, describing his silence over the crisis as callous.

“In recent times, the myriad of issues facing this noble institution threatens to bring the institution to its knees.

“The funding of the tertiary institution remains the most pressing problem which has caused unstable academic calendar, infrequent payment of salaries and disconnection of electricity due to huge debts owed to providers.

“The problem of joint ownership is also a problem steadily eating away at the survival of the university. It becomes very embarrassing when the two state governments fail to live up to their financial obligations. It is unreasonable that the IGR being generated within the institution even covers the everyday expenses of the school.
