Why we shut down churches, mosques - State Govt. explains

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has explained why it shut down some religious houses in the state recently.

According to reports, no less than 30 facilities were shut in areas including Ketu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere.

Some of the religious houses shut down were Rain of Power and Miracles Ministry Church, LekkiChrist Apostolic Church, Lekki and Olorunkemi Mosque, Ketu.

LASEPA's Director of Enforcement, Kayode Bello, speaking on behalf of the agency said the religious houses were contacted several times in the last one year over alleged air and noise pollution.

However, officials of the various places of worship had refused to comply with LASEPA's instructions.

Mr. Bello revealed that the mosque had partly complied with the agency after taking down their speakers as instructed but was later shut down because they hadn't fully adhered to instructions.
