President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has rewarded the Nigerian who won World Scrabble Championship with N1.5m.

Wellington Jighere won the English-Language World Scrabble Championship, becoming the first African to do so.

He was today, Thursday, January 21 hosted by Buhari at a reception held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Jihere was rewarded with sum of N1.5m while his coach was given N1,2m.

Team secretary of the Team Nigeria Scrabble team was given the sum of N450,000.

Jighere recently paid a visit to the Pulse TV studio where he spoke about his experiences in winning the championship.

“It felt good,” he said about winning the championship which came with a price N1.9m.
