President Buhari congratulates team on victory over Cameroon

Nigeria on Friday, September 1 outclassed African champions Cameroon in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Uyo.

Buhari who is in his hometown of Daura in Katsina State celebrate to the ongoing Eid-el-Kabir released a statement on his Twitter hailing the display of Nigeria’s senior national team.

“I join millions of football-loving Nigerians in applauding our Super Eagles for their skilful and entertaining display against Cameroon,” Buhari wrote on Twitter.

“Congratulations, Super Eagles, on the impressive win. We are looking forward to you sustaining the momentum in the return leg.

“Football, like the is a powerful unifying platform for us as a nation. Today's victory is for all Nigerians, at home & in the Diaspora.”

Buhari also included a statement of commendation for Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel who hosted the game at the teams.

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki also released a statement through his office Twitter account.

“The @SPNigeria congratulates our #SuperEagles for their dominant performance in tonight's World Cup qualifiers!” Sarai said.

With that victory, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are on the verge of qualifying for their sixth FIFA World Cup tournament.

They top Group B of the African qualification with nine points while Cameroon remain second with two points before Zambia host Algeria in the other game.
