Manchester City striker's ‘phone’ celebration is not for an ex-girlfriend
Jesus who has made a fantastic start to life at Manchester City is known to place his fingers to his ears, mimicking a phone call while celebrating a goal.
An alleged quote from him claimed that the celebration is for an ex-girlfriend who didn’t believe in him.
“My celebration was a message to my ex-girlfriend who didn't answer my calls at Palmeiras, but messaged me when I moved to City," the 19-year-old is alleged to have said.
The quote which has gone viral is fake.
According to the striker, his celebration is a tribute to his mother Vera Lucia who calls him before and after every game.
The Brazil international uses the celebration to signify the constant communication with his mother who calls regularly to critic his games.
After a goal for Brazil against Venezuela in October 2016, Jesus celebrated with his trademark phone call style, after the game he said; “It was a joke with my friends, a 'hello, mother'. My friends know why. My mother knows too. It was a celebration for them.”
A self-confessed mummy’s boy, Jesus and two brothers and a sister were raised by a single mother, Vera.
Vera did this while working as a domestic maid in the poor Jardim Peri district, above, in Sao Paulo.
She is said to be in control of almost every aspect of Jesus’ life, from the food he eats to where he goes to, and even the girls he meets.
In an interview with Yahoo Brasil in September 2016, Gabriel's older brother Caique said that his mother controls the star's salary, passing on only pocket money to the Olympic gold winner.
So this should shut down the fake quote.
