Shelby MIller's no-hitter bid highlights day dominated by pitchers
Shelby Miller was just an out away from a no-hitter as the Atlanta Braves thrashed the Miami Marlins 6-0 in MLB.
But with two outs in the ninth inning, Miller gave up a sharp single to Miami's Justin Bour.
Miller ended with a two-hit shutout, improving to 5-1 this season with a 1.33 ERA.
There were six other shutouts as the Philadelphia Phillies (6-0 over the Arizona Diamondbacks), Baltimore Orioles (3-0 over the Los Angeles Angels), Kansas City Royals (6-0 over the New York Yankees), Pittsburgh Pirates (3-0 over the Chicago Cubs), Seattle Mariners (5-0 over the Boston Red Sox) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1-0 over the Colorado Rockies) kept their opposition scoreless.
The pitchers had a good day, with Noah Syndergaard grabbing his first career win as the New York Mets overcame the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1.
Other winners were the San Francisco Giants (9-8 over the Cincinnati Reds), the Tampa Bay Rays (11-3 over the Minnesota Twins), the Houston Astros (4-2 over the Toronto Blue Jays) and the Texas Rangers (5-1 over the Cleveland Indians).
The Chicago White Sox were triumphant 7-3 against the Oakland Athletics, Bryce Harper's form continued as the Washington Nationals beat the San Diego Padres 10-5 and the St Louis Cardinals edged the Detroit Tigers 2-1.
IMPACT PLAYERS Brandon Crawford, San Francisco Giants: Crawford posted a two-for-four performance Sunday, with three runs scored and an RBI.
Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: Everyone who jumped on the "Harper is over-rated bandwagon" before the season is looking mighty silly now. The Nats slugger cracked his 14th home run of the year on Sunday. He finished three-for-four with three runs and four RBIs.
Shelby Miller, Atlanta Braves: On a day when there were seven shutouts, Miller had the best performance with his two-hitter.
KEY INJURIES
Cubs rookie third baseman Kris Bryant left Sunday's game against the Pirates before the fifth inning. The team announced he is "under the weather." He singled and struck out in two plate appearances.

SURPRISE PERFORMERS
Bad: Giants right-hander Chris Heston has been unpredictable this season. He has given up only one or fewer earned runs in five starts this season, but been rocked in three outings. The worst of those outings came Sunday against the Reds. Heston lasted only two innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.
