French defender, Eliaquim Mangala's £32m move to Manchester City makes him the most expensive defender in the history of British football.

The 23 year-old joined the Etihad club who wanted a partner for Belgium international Vincent Kompany, on a 5 year contract, having left Portuguese club, FC Porto.

The £32m record beats that of Rio Ferdinand's £30m move from Leeds to Manchester United back in 2002, therefore becoming City's sixth signing for the coming season.

He is worth much and he is rated high, and much expectation is placed on him to deliver the worth of the money spent on his transfer.
