Sam Warburton: South Africa win my best moment for Wales

Sam Warburton ranked Saturday's 12-6 victory over South Africa among his finest achievements as a Wales player.

Leigh Halfpenny kicked all the points in Cardiff as Warren Gatland's side overcame opposition from the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in 24 games.

Wales ground out a hard-fought victory at the Millennium Stadium, keeping the Springboks at bay despite fraught late pressure.

And captain Warburton revelled in the victory afterwards, having toppled the kind of opponent Wales will need to do so if they are to stand a chance of World Cup success next year.

He told BBC Sport: "I said before, I wish people could see the effort we've put in in the last five weeks.

"We've been getting up at six in the morning and altitude-training, and doing all sorts, we were just so desperate to get this win.

"You get out what you put in and that was the case this afternoon.

"It's awesome. We've been desperate to do this for so long and we've been knocking on the door for ages. I've been in the set-up since 2009 and we haven't achieved it.

"This is right up there with the best achievements I've had in the Wales jersey and hopefully the team can kick on from that."
