MacGinty, who started three of the USA'sRugby World Cup Pool B games, has joined for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
"I am very happy to join Connacht for the season ahead," MacGinty said. "This is a great opportunity for me to develop as a player under the tutelage of [head coach] Pat [Lam] and his impressive coaching team. I can't wait to get started."
Connacht are fourth in the Pro12 with 16 points having claimed three bonus-point wins and suffered one defeat.
MacGinty could make his debut for the Irish side at Ospreys on Saturday.
