Simona Halep Eases Past Petkovic In Semi Final

Romania for the first time in 36 years has another female tennis player in the French Open Final, long after Virginia Ruzici won the Women's Singles final in 1978.

Simona Halep who has been efficient in her smooth running to the final; her first ever in a major Grand Slam, saw off a determined but ultimately overmatched Andrea Petkovic in three straights of 6-2, 7-6(4) which lasted just 89 minutes.

While the contenders fell to the rackets of some youngsters and top seeds, the 2008 French Open junior champion quietly sealed a final against now three time finalist and 2012 champion Sharapova.

The 22 year-old Seven times WTA title winner rounded up the game in 1 hour 28 minutes, against a lowly rated Petkovic who is has never played in a Grand Slam semi final before the game.

"It's incredible to be in the final here in Paris.

"I think I was a little bit stronger in the end, I tried everything to win this match,'' Simona said after the game.

It was more of a one-sided contest between the 22nd seed and the 28th seed German, Andrea Petkovic.

Simona added.

One thing that has been with the Simona is the gifted success over her opponents whose name begin with the letter both Finalists have 'S' initials. If the Romanian's victory over in the round of 16 and in the Quarter finals are taken into context, then she just might have already won the 2014 French Open Women's Singles.
