Richard Sherman will need to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left elbow, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Monday.

Carroll also confirmed cornerback Jeremy Lane suffered a "significant" broken arm. The injury came after Lane picked off a Tom Brady pass late in the first quarter.
Earl Thomas is seeking a second opinion on his injured shoulder, but the expectation is he will need surgery.
Tommy John surgery is most commonly associated with MLB pitchers. The timetable for full recovery ranges from eight months to one year.
