According to recent developments, Steven Gerrard the captain of the English team, is said to have announced his retirement following the disappoint outing of his national team at the FIFA world cup 2014.
Gerrard says 'it is a sad day for me knowing that I won’t pull on the England shirt again.. England captaincy 'made me the proudest man in the country.'
Gerrard, is England's third most capped player ever behind David Beckham and Peter Shilto. The England captain earned 114 England caps since his debut in 2000 and captained Roy Hodgson's team in the 2014 World Cup.
He also expressed his gratitude to his family, friends and fans for their support, and said 'this has been a very difficult decision, one of the toughest i've had to make in my career'
