A persona is simply a profile that is created by a writer to represent the target audience for whom they are writing.
A writer knows that personas are based on the profile of readers of your copy. When you create a profile, you put into consideration the characteristics of your readers, their needs and desires.
Every business has a persona which makes up their target market, and as a business owner it is important to know who your products and services caters to. This is an important factor if you wish to grow and make profit.
When creating a persona, some points to consider about your audience are:
- Which gender I'm I targeting? Are they majorly male or female?
- What age range I'm I seeking for?
- What are their other demographics and psychographics?
Once you understand your persona based on these characteristics, you can ask yourself some questions that'll give you more insights on your next steps. If your aim is to sell products and services, questions include:
- How does my target market make buying decisions?
- Will I fall in their initial consideration set, do they compare with my competitors before selecting the most suitable?
- Do they make list of questions and call for assistance before making a decisions or do they make decisions based on special offers?
Understanding the personas for your target market is extremely important in order to write what best suits them. It doesn't mean you should limit your understanding to a particular persona. Digital writing can be structured in a way that it caters to different personas.
It is also important to consider the different digital marketing channels you'll use to convey what has been written. Bear in mind that these channels have different audiences. So, in order not to miss the point, you can have one persona for each platform you intend to use.
At RDM, we help our clients understand the needs of their customers in different platforms and develop write ups that'll convey the right marketing messages to these personas who make up their target market.
