World poetry day aims to encourage the return of poetry recitals and publishing and also to promote the teaching of poetry so they stay relevant in today's society.

If you love poetry and you're not sure what to do on this day. Well, here's a list of 5 poetry-related activities to give you that awesome poetry-filled day you desire.

1. Try writing a little poem

A poem is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic qualities.

It doesn't necessarily have to be perfect, just be creative about it and express your art with beautiful words.

If you have no idea what kind of poem to write or who to write it to, try writing one for your mum, dad, siblings, spouse or for yourself. You could even write about things, imaginative or real. Just get creative.

2. Make newspaper blackout poetry.

This activity is half craft, half poetry. Take a print newspaper and a black marker and draw small rectangles around words that jump out at you. Then draw rectangles around conjunctions to connect them. Once you have your poem written, black out everything that's not in a rectangle. Then admire.

3. Write an acrostic

To write an acrostic, pick a word, perhaps your name, and write it down vertically. Then choose adjectives related to the topic that start with each letter within it and pen it down. There you go!

4. Play a poetry game

You could form small groups with a few friends of yours, say a group of 2. Pick a subject matter, and create content around it. The group with the highest score wins the game. For fun sake.

5. Share on social media

Spread the literature everywhere. Share the short poem you've written with all your contacts on social media and to the world at large by posting it online.
