Temporary seating set for Super Rugby final to increase Westpac Stadium's capacity
The initial release of tickets for the season decider between the home-town Hurricanes and Highlanders sold out in under a minute on Monday, but the hosts announced on Tuesday that an extra 5,000 seats will be available on Wednesday.
That allocation includes 1,700 temporary seats that will be installed at the southern end and on the eastern wing.
Westpac Stadium's capacity will grow to over 36,000 with the extra seats.
"We understand a number of people who queued up locally on Monday missed out on tickets due to the huge interest generated online," Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said in a statement on the club's website.
"Because of that, we plan to join with Ticketek and create a pop-up site at [New Zealand's national museum] Te Papa, where about 2,000 tickets will be available from 8am tomorrow [22:00 GMT on Tuesday]."
Neither Hurricanes nor Highlanders have previously won Super Rugby, with both also having previously lost finals to Crusaders.
