Pat Lambie insists South Africa will not be hindered by past disappointments when they take on Wales in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

The Springboks lost 12-6 to Wales in Cardiff last year - a match in which Lambie accounted for all of his side's points - and were eliminated by Australia in the last eight of the 2011 tournament.

However, since losing to Japan in their World Cup opener, South Africa have adopted a never-look-back attitude - a mindset utility back Lambie is keen to maintain.

"I think what happened in the past needs to stay in the past," he said. "All that counts now is Saturday.

"We will learn from what happened in Cardiff last November but we need to focus on ourselves and put in a good performance.

"[Defeat to Australia four years ago] was one of the low points of my career. We had high expectations and the campaign was very disappointing and I don't want to repeat that feeling.

"We have been in a knockout mentality since our second match so we're approaching this match pretty much the same.

"We want to do our country proud and win at all costs."
