Germany beat the Netherlands in London to retain four years ago to retain the title they won in Beijing, but they will do battle for bronze this time around.

Peillat was the star of the show for Argentina in the first semi-final at the Olympic Hockey Centre, scoring all three penalty corners to inspire a 5-2 victory and book a place in Thursday's final.

Joaquin Menini and Lucas Vila also struck as the South American nation left the champions shell-shocked by taking a 5-0 lead, so the damage had already been done by the time Germany scored two late goals.

The Netherlands missed out on gold once again after going down 3-1 to neighbours Belgium, who are through to their first Olympic final.
