The Crusaders will be without experienced duo Dan Carter and Richie McCaw for their Super Rugby clash with the Sharks on Sunday.

Head coach Todd Blackadder has made seven changes to the side that were beaten by the Bulls in Pretoria last weekend, with McCaw the surprise omission.

The New Zealand captain has been replaced in the back row by Matt Todd, leaving McCaw to provide cover from the bench as the Crusaders look to boost their position in the table.

Carter will not feature after returning to New Zealand for the birth of his child, so Colin Slade will take over at stand-off, while David Havili makes his first start on the wing.

Meanwhile, the Sharks will be without Francois Steyn after he was suspended for five weeks following a tip tackle on Aaron Cruden against the Chiefs.
