Madison Keys draws Christina McHale in Strasbourg, Monica Puig to play Samantha Stosur
Madison Keys is the top seed for the Internationaux de Strasbourg in France, starting Monday, while defending champion Monica Puig has a tough start to her 2015 campaign.
Keys (ranked 17th) and Jelena Jankovic (20th) are the only two top-20 players competing at the WTA International event, in the final week leading up to the French Open.
American Keys drew compatriot Christina McHale, who endured some good fortune on her way to reaching the Internazionali d'Italia quarter-finals in Rome.
McHale ousted Sara Errani to reach the third round, and the withdrawal of Serena Williams to injury saw her reach the last eight at a WTA Premier tournament for the first time since 2012.
She also comes to Strasbourg with a good record in the clay-court event, reaching the semi-finals in '14.
Puerto Rico's Puig will take on third seed Samantha Stosur in a first-round blockbuster, with the one-time French Open finalist keen to kick-start her preparations for Roland Garros.
So far the clay-court season has spawned just three match wins from as many tournaments for Stosur, whose ranking has fallen to 27th.
Jankovic will take on Irina Falconi in her opening clash, while two-time finalist and 2013 champion Alize Cornet - the fourth seed - will play a qualifier first-up.
Francesca Schiavone, who beat Cornet in the '12 final, was handed a wildcard into the main draw, where she will meet American Lauren Davis.
Zarina Diyas has had a strange clay campaign in 2015, and comes into France as the fifth seed - which sets her up for a clash with Alison Riske.
Diyas has just two match wins on the surface in four tournaments, although one of those was a double-bagel victory over world number 19 Sabine Lisicki.
