Timea Bacsinszky started her quest to win the WTA Ladies Championship Gstaad on home soil by beating qualifier Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets on a rain-affected day.

The top seed made a winning return to clay on day two of the WTA International tournament, taking 90 minutes to oust the unseeded Spaniard 6-3 6-2 on Tuesday.

Bacsinszky suffered a third round defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at Wimbledon, but was in no mood to dwell on that disappointment.

The world number 17 was able to break the 148-ranked Sorribes Tormo seven times as she ease into round two, but there was room for improvement as she failed to hold on three occasions.

Sixth seed Johanna Larsson also made it through to round two, sending Bethanie Mattek-Sands packing with a 7-5 6-2 victory.

They were the only two games to be completed due to the inclement weather.
