Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen kicked off the new Serie A season in style after scoring and providing an assist in  Napoli's 5-2 win over Hellas Verona at Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium.

Osimhen showed his intent from the start and got his reward with a goal in Napoli's first game of the new Serie A season.

Osimhen embraces his new role at Napoli

The Nigerian international is expected to play a leading role for the Neapolitans this season following the departure of players like Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens.

While some players may be fazed by the pressure of playing a key role in the squad, Osimhen appears not to be bothered by it.

The Super Eagles star was full of energy, as usual, putting pressure on his defenders and contributing massively in attack.

Napoli started the clash on the front foot, with Luciano Spalletti's men dominating the early proceedings despite losing key men this summer.

However, it was Verona that took the lead against the run of play through Kevin Lasagna, who tapped home from close range following a flick-on from Koray Gunter.

Napoli did respond well, though, through a header from their new Georgian signing, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, in the 37th minute.

It got better for Spalletti's men just before the break as Osimhen got on the end of a flick-on from Giovanni Di Lorenzo to put the side 2-1 up.

The second half resumed with Verona restoring parity immediately through a header from Thomas Henry. However, that was as good as it got for the home side as Napoli took charge following their equaliser.

The away side restored their lead in the 55th minute, courtesy of a fine finish from Piotr Zielinski. Stanislav Lobotka then got on the act ten minutes later with a brilliant individual goal.

Substitute, Matteo Politano, added gloss to the scoreline, finishing off a fine lay-off from Osimhen. The result is the first time Napoli have scored more than four goals in an opening game of Serie A. Next up for them is a home clash against newcomers Monza.
