LaShawn Merritt, Allyson Felix run top 400m times

LaShawn Merritt and Allyson Felix showed they can still hang with the youngsters on Sunday, as the 30-year-old runners won the men's and women's 400 metres at the United StatesOlympic trials, earning a trip to the 2016 Olympics.
Both Felix and Merritt ran the fastest times in the world this year in their races.
Felix ran 49.68 seconds, holding off Phyllis Francis and Natasha Hastings to earn her fourth-straight Olympic berth.
She is just the second woman in USA history to make the Olympics in the 100m, 200m and 400m.
She did it despite dealing with a severe right ankle injury suffered in April and continues to bother her.
"It was the hardest challenge I've had," Felix told NBC Sports after the race.
Merritt ran a blazing 43.97secs in the 400m to reserve his spot to Rio.
The 2008 gold medalist will be looking for redemption after pulling up in a qualifying heat during the 2012 London Games due to a hamstring injury.
"I've got the fastest time in the world right now in the 200m and the 400m," Merritt said. "So I'm feeling good right now."
