Andrew and David Fifita will miss the remainder of the NRL's home-and-away season, after being banned for a confrontation with a junior referee.

The twins were alleged to have physically and verbally abused the official during a game in Penrith in July, and were immediately stood down by the Sharks amid an investigation.

The Sharks confirmed both were handed 25-hour community service sanctions which will see the pair provide support to junior rugby league and match officials in a local junior league, while Andrew was also fined 30,000 Australian dollars.

The sanction indicated it was a 'six-round suspension', including the past weekend's Round 21 - when the brothers were stood down from playing.

Both brothers will provide apologies to the officials involved, and will not be available for selection until the finals - with the Sharks likely to be involved, sitting fifth with five matches to play.
