United Methodist Church donates mouth watering sum to fight Malaria

United Methodist Church's donation to Global Fund

In an interview with Huffington Post, <strong>Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton </strong>said members had to take up odd jobs like selling lemonade from lemonade stands and washing cars to raise money for the fund.

The Church raised a total of $9.6 million, which was donated to Global Fund. Global Fund is a non-profit health organisation that is based in Geneva.

The money was donated for the fight of Malaria.

Global Fund’s Executive Director Dr. Mark Dybul said the United Methodist Church is is the first faith based organisation to give such an amount-$9.6 million.

Dybul said it channels funds to fighting HIV, tuberculosis and malaria in countries that have a high prevalence of these diseases.

He also added that the Global Fund runs on an annual budget of $4 billion a year. Dybul commended the efforts of faith based organisations towards ensuring that many people are cured of Malaria.
