The 60,491 seater ultra-modern multipurpose sports complex which was launched in 2003 has not been in use for a long time.

Nigerian sports journalist and analyst, Godwin Enakhena visited the stadium recently and took to his Twitter to share photos of its bad state.

Enakhena shared photos of abandoned ambulances at the national stadium, newly built but unused structures including the just constructed headquarters of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

These photos come after reports that the $300million Stadium and the accompanying 240-room hotel have been overtaken by herdsmen.

A security official attached to the stadium confirmed in the report that the herdsmen have been grazing in the complex for a year.

The reports state that the herdsmen armed with dangerous weapons have overpowered security men attached to the stadium.

Over the months, the main bowl of the stadium has been used for religious and cultural activities while some parts have been occupied by beggars.
