Million-dollar Marsh pleased to retain focus

Mitchell Marsh was delighted to put Indian Premier League riches to the back of his mind as he completed a man-of-the-match performance in Australia's four-wicket win over New Zealand in Wellington.

A mature innings of 69 not out from the all-rounder helped Australia recover from a mid-innings wobble to chase down 282 in Saturday's second one-day international and set up a series decider in Hamilton on Monday.

Marsh, who had earlier claimed two top-order wickets in New Zealand's innings, shared an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 84 with John Hastings (48 not out), ensuring the tourists did not waste the good work of openers David Warner (98) and Usman Khawaja (50).

Yet Marsh could have been forgiven for not being fully focused when he went out to bat, after discovering he had been bought by new IPL franchise Pune Supergiants for a fee of 480 lakhs, approximately one million Australian dollars.

"I was waiting to bat and some bloke yelled out to me in the crowd 'well done, you've just gone for a million dollars'," said Marsh.

"I didn't really believe him and just tried to block it out. It was pretty amazing, then Shaun [Marsh's elder brother] sat next to me with a little grin, gave me a little nudge and I found out.

"I was really happy I was able to block that out and really focus on the game.

"Your bank balance doesn't give you runs."
