Robert Pattinson's Costume in The Batman Includes an Easter Egg From the Comics

So far, so Batman. It's a variation on an incredibly familiar costume, with one key difference. In the closeup on Pattinson's chest, you can see the iconic bat symbol, clearly made from different material to the rest of the costume, almost resembling guns.

Fans have interpreted this design to be a callback to a detail from the comic books, wherein Bruce Wayne takes the gun that was used to murder his parents, melts it down, and uses it as part of the chest shield in his costume.

"I'm going to burn the thing that killed my parents," Wayne says in the comic, "and forge it into something useful. So the metal that broke my heart as a child? That same metal will protect my heart as a man. And that is justice."

A number of fans have responded positively to the inclusion of this small piece of Batman lore in the new costume. And if nothing else, it's certainly proving less controversial than those infamous Bat-nipples.
