The cocktail traces its origins to Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1898, at the bar of the Gilded Age restaurant Locke-Ober.

According to legend, the drink was created to honor the election of Democratic political czar Martin M. Lomasney, who hoped to capture a seat in the state's legislature and the city's Ward 8 which historically delivered him a winning margin.

The drink sports a mix of rye whiskey, orange juice, lemon juice and grenadine for fruity, unmistakable alcoholic taste.
