Charles Helm, who filmed the whole event could be heard as he recorded, saying, “That is the biggest freakin’ alligator I have ever seen in my life,”

“Jesus, that must be 15ft long,” another voice said behind the camera, and another added in a surprised tone: “You gotta be kidding me.”

Another man stepped out from behind Charles with his camera, getting closer to the mighty reptile for a closer shot.

“You ever seen anything that big? Holy crap, that is a monster,” Charles could be heard saying.

Members of staff at the Buffalo Creek Golf Club were however not so surprised, saying the reptile was a common sight and had become popular with customers.

Speaking to News 3, Wendy Schofield, who works at its pro shop,: "He has been here for a very, very long time, he's not new at all…the word has spread that this is a great place to come and play. He is the highlight, but we are worth the price too.

“He doesn't bother anybody and they don't bother him, he's like a mascot for the course."
