Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami is hoping to step into the shoes of late Super Eagles great, Rashidi Yekini.

The striker was on Thursday December 3 honoured in Ibadanby the Rashidi Yekini foundation for finishing the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season as the highest goal scorer.

He was also awarded the sum of N100, 00 and the boot of the late football icon.

After receiving the award, Salami revealed that his aim is to emulate Rashidi Yekini who remains Nigeria’s all time highest goal scorer with 37 goals in 58 appearances.

“Having Rashidi Yekini’s boot is very significant as I believe they want me to step into the big shoes of Yekini which is an herculean task but I hope to try my best,” the striker said.

The Rashidi Yekini Highest goal award is an annual event aimed at encouraging and recognizing the highest goal scorer in the NPFL every season.

It is put together and sponsored solely by the counsel of the late Rashidi Yekini through a foundation named after the deceased in other to immortalize him.
