Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr will begin Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix from the pit lane after missing a compulsory FIA weighbridge call during qualifying.

Sainz qualified eighth fastest on the streets of Monte Carlo, two places ahead of team-mate Max Verstappen.

Stewards said: "[Sainz] failed to stop for weighing during Q1 when signalled to do so by the red traffic light, the car was not returned to the FIA garage and work was undertaken."

The penalty means all drivers from ninth-placed Pastor Maldonado downwards will move up a position on the grid.
