The Paraguay international is a Bundesliga winner and was also at Guangzhou Evergrande when they won the Chinese Super League in 2012.

"It's a new team which is improving every day. All the fans are seeing it," Barrios told the club's website.

"I come to join the team. The truth is that all the fans are expecting to do a good championship and get a good result at the end of the season.

"The Palms is a team that has many titles, one of the most important teams in Brazil, and I am very happy to be here."

Palmeiras are eight-time Serie A champions, but the last of those titles came in 1994.

They sit seventh in the league after 13 games, seven points behind leaders Atletico Mineiro.
