He retired from international football in 2005 after inflicting damages to several teams around the globe
If you were born in the early ‘90’s you would remember Gabriel Batistuta for the heartbreaks he caused Nigeria especially
The Argentine retired after netting in 56 goals for the Albercelestes in 78 international matches in a 17 year-old career
With all the pains that follow some footballers after calling it quits to the game, Batistuta suffered terribly from the stress of playing that he developed excruciating pain in his leg after 17 whole years of running and prowling on the pitch; a situation which caused a lack of cartilage in his knees
With the pain, he became unable to walk and could bear the burden of dragging his body to the bathroom, so he wet the bed constantly
Batistuta found it shameful for a grown football legend to wet the bed, coupled with the excruciating pain, he begged a doctor to cut off his legs
He wanted to become like South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius
Batistuta who is now 45 told TYC Sports:
Thank God the doctors did not give him what he wanted
Today Batistuta walks with his legs without the aid of anybody, save the screw doctors fit into his leg due to the lack of cartilage and tendons. This procedure ended the pains he suffered and restored his life to what it is meant to be: it prevented friction between the bones, which was what caused him pains.
Batistuta's football career spanned a total of 17 years, he played for various clubs including:
(1988–1989) 24 appearances, 7 goals (1989-90) 21 apps , 4 goals (1990-91) 30 apps, 13 goals
(1991-2000) 269 apps, 168 goals (2000-03) 63 apps, 30 goals (2003, loan) 12 apps, 2 goals
(2003-05) 21 apps, 25 goals
