Nigerian football is today remembering the late Super Eagles great, Rashidi Yekini who died four years ago on May, 2, 2012.

The Kwara State born striker died in 2012 at the age of 48 after a longtime illness and Nigerians have taken to social media to pay tribute to the former striker.

Ex-Super Eagles coach and former teammate of Yekini, Sunday Oliseh took to his Twitter to remember the striker.

“4 yrs ago today We lost Rashidi Yekini Nigeria's greatest legendary striker. Let's mourn but also celebrate his legacy.God bless his soul,” Oliseh said.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) also tweeted their tribute to Yekini who scored Nigeria's first FIFA World Cup goal in USA 94.

Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international, and represented the nation in five major tournaments, including two World Cups.

He was also named the African Footballer of the Year in 1993.
