Wrestling icon apologises for racist remark

Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan has apologised for some racist remarks he used which led to his dropping by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The WWE thereafter disassociated themselves from Hogan whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea.

Hulk Hogan's profile was removed from the Alumni section of WWE's website, all of his merchandise were also removed from WWEShop.com, and he was also removed from the cast listing on Tough Enough's website.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer noted that the WWE Website was told to remove all references to him.

The WW later confirmed that they had terminated their contract with the 61-year-old following the incident.

"WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide," they said in a statement.

In a statement provided to, Hogan apologised for his comments saying:

"This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise.

Former American basketball star, Dennis Rodman took to his Twitter account to defend Hogan saying that he has known the WWW Hall of Famer for 25 years and he is not a racist.

This will not be first time Hogan will be in trouble over a tape.

In April 2012, a sex tape between Hogan and Heather Clem, the estranged wife of radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge, emerged online.

Hogan described that incident as a 'very low point in his life'.

"It was a bad choice and a very low point" Hogan told radio personality Howard Stern on his radio show.

"I was with some friends and made a wrong choice. It has devastated me, I have never been this hurt."
