Philadelphia Phillies name Pete Mackanin as interim manager
It came a day after the Phillies announced that Andy MacPhail will replace Pat Gillick as president at the end of the 2015 season.
With a 27-51 record heading into Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies own baseball's worst record.
MacPhail will spend the remainder of the season evaluating the team's personnel, both on and off the field, so more changes are inevitable.
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr said there were no guarantees Mackanin, who will be in charge for the rest of the season, would turn the interim job into a permanent one.
"I think it's pretty clear, this does not necessarily mean that he's a candidate to take the job beyond the year by any stretch of the imagination," he said.
"I think we're going to have basically a clean slate to make that decision. Pete may or may not be part of that decision-making process, and Pete understands that."
